What is the significance of trees to me? According to renowned woodworker George Nakashima in his book The soul of a Tree, when I am surrounded by trees and immersed in their space, it becomes effortless to perceive their essence. Trees are like avatars, representing an immutable force that transcends the suffering of humanity. Sometimes, when I am alone with trees, I can sense their soul. However, some trees communicate more clearly than others. During my travels to Western Sweden, I discovered the beauty of Scots Pine (known as “Tall” in Swedish), which often grow hidden in forests on rocky outcrops. Here are some snapshots of one of my favorite Tall trees, situated like an avatar in its own corner of the world.

The Äsperöd Gnarly Trees have been a frequent destination for me during autumn. The way the sun sets and casts its light through the forest is truly remarkable, causing the branches to appear as if they’re broken and splintered. It’s almost like a darkened gateway that extends across the forest floor, beckoning visitors to step underneath it and stand in awe.
The Äsperöd Sunset Archway is a captivating sight, especially when captured in photographs during cloudy or post-sunset moments. These shots bring out the essence of this stunning structure without any distracting contrasts, making it appear like a towering creature with its arms stretching high above you.
The magnificent Äsperöd is a towering tree unlike any other. With its grand stature and awe-inspiring presence, it stands out as a true giant among the surrounding flora. This majestic plant is truly a sight to behold, with its branches stretching towards the sky and its roots delving deep into the earth. It is a true testament to the power and beauty of nature, and a reminder of how small we truly are in this vast world.
The Äsperöd Tree Being seems to be in a state of waiting, according to this picture. It’s as if it’s beckoning you to walk through the ancient tree stumps while it stands there, appearing poised and balanced, almost anticipating your arrival. Personally, this snapshot is my favorite among all.
